Mount Monadnock - World’s Most Popular Hike?

Located in southern New Hampshire just a short distance from many of the largest cities of the northeastern United States,  Mount Monadnock is believed to compete with Mount Fugi in Japan as the world’s most frequently climbed mountain.  For good reason, as much of the hike is over open ledges with spectacular views of southern New Hampshire and northern Massachusetts before reaching the distinctive 3,137 foot summit.  One of my favorite New England hikes, fall is perhaps the best time to experience Monadnock because the colourful autumn foliage is invariably breathtaking.  Our book, Mountains for Mortals - New England, provides precise directions to what I consider the best and easiest trail to the summit along with a detailed trail description, map and elevation profile.  Other trail options are also discussed.  Additional information is available on our website, www.ronchaseoutdoors.com.
