Pleasant Mountain - Maine’s Monadnock

Standing alone in the Lakes Region of southwestern Maine, Pleasant Mountain is the highest peak in southern Maine and a prominent landmark.  During a recent hike on the Southwest Ridge Trail, I found newly fallen leaves had enhanced the always spectacular views of the White Mountains of New Hampshire and Mahoosuc Range in western Maine.  Fall is my favorite time of year on Pleasant Mountain because of the breathtaking foliage.  However, I can enjoy a brisk winter snowshoe or a breezy hike on a hot, humid summer day on this unique monadnock.  Obtain a copy of our book, Mountains for Mortals - New England, for precise directions to the Southwest Ridge Trail and a detailed description of this easy hike.  It includes a map, elevation profile, information on other trails and a wealth of valuable information.  See our website www.ronchaseoutdoors.com for additional particulars on our book.
