RAGGED MOUNTAIN: My Favorite in the Camden Hills
My favorite hike in the Camden Hills of Mid-Coast Maine is Ragged Mountain. Located in West Rockport, it is an easy hike to the summit of this distinctive, barren peak with exceptional views of Rockland and Rockport harbors and dozens of offshore islands. Cliffs along its rugged south face overlook scenic Mirror Lake and Pleasant and Spruce mountains beyond. Fall is my preferred time to visit Ragged as the colorful fall foliage amplifies the already spectacular views. Our book, Mountains for Mortals - New England, provides all the information necessary to enjoy a wonderful day of hiking on this exceptional coastal peak. My website, www.ronchaseoutdoors.com provides additional information.

I’ll be sure to put Ragged Mountain on my list for next year’s adventures, offerings of the seasonal lemonade stand on the summit will certainly be appreciated! I was ready to climb Mount Champlain in June, but because of peasoup fog chose biking on the carriage trails instead. Now it’s late October and I’m getting ready for hibernating on my comfy couch - with Mountains for Mortals within reach, as I’m going to memorize some chapters to blow away my hiking companions with my extensive knowledge of trails details and local history when we return to the woods next spring
