I think trailers would also be dangerous on the way up the vertical switchbacks on the canyon wall. I had to drive this route at dusk in a 4 wheel drive and I was frightened nearly out of my wits. My husband had to pry my fingers from the wheel when we finally made it to Tortilla Flat. Yes, I agree. It's a dirt road - all the way, full of steep climbs and dips and hairpins turns and while there are spots where you can go as fast as 35 mph, you'd better plan on 25 mph. It’s a dirt road - all the way, full of steep climbs and dips and hairpins turns and while there are spots where you can go as fast as 35 mph, you’d better plan on 25 mph.
