Wilderness Press Announces New Walking Guide to Berkeley & Oakland
BERKELEY, CA — Our friends at Wilderness Press just keep the hits coming!
Last week, confirmation came that Wilderness has signed Bay Area insider and freelance travel writer Rylan Freshour to author the newest addition to their urban hiking travel guide series, Walking Berkeley & Oakland.
“Most simply put, Walking Berkeley & Oakland will benefit both locals and visitors,” Susan Haynes, Senior Acquisitions Editor at Wilderness Press, explained. “By locals, I mean not only the entire East Bay (Oakland, Berkeley, Alameda, Walnut Creek, Orinda, Danville, Albany, etc.), but also the city of San Francisco and the north and south counties.”
The Walking series, the imprint’s fastest growing series, are a must for the inquisitive urban adventurer, whether they’re a local discovering their city with fresh eyes, or a visitor in town for a few days seeking a more authentic travel experience.
The series is part of a larger, rapidly growing trend across the U.S. to refocus attention and investment toward urban renewal and revitalization. “These books are meant to put our country’s urban centers in the spotlight,” said Haynes, “showing residents and visitors alike how vibrant, diverse, and dynamic our cities truly are.”
The series, currently boasting guides to 13 of the U.S. and Canada’s metropolitan centers, plans to add several more titles to its cache in the next 2 years, Walking Berkeley & Oakland being the most recent to enter the fold. Also part of the series, Walking San Francisco by Tom Downs is now in its 2nd edition and being well received by the Bay Area community, according to Wilderness.
Freshour’s book will cover the East Bay, a pocket of the Bay Area that Downs’s book does not.
Other upcoming additions to the series include Walking Queens (Fall 2014), Walking Cincinnati (Fall 2014), and an update to Walking Chicago (Fall 2015).
Walking Berkeley & Oakland is scheduled for publication by Spring 2015.
